Energy Trek Overview

The mission of Energy Trek is to move the world to greater degrees of energy conservation and countries to greater degrees of energy independence by focusing on actions people can take in their homes and in their communities. Energy Trek:

  • is for those who want to make a difference in energy use in their homes and in their world, from changing light bulbs to more extreme energy conservation measures ("Extreme Energy Trekking").
  • is a place where people can learn about energy conservation (the Energy Roadmap), find solutions and share their energy actions .
  • is for everyone – individuals, families, and groups - from schools, and neighborhoods to celebrities, political figures, and business leaders

Energy or Global Warming? - Which do People Feel is the More Important "Top Priority" ?

2007 Pew Study Shows Democrats and Republicans agree that the more important top priority is Energy

According to a March 2006, Gallop Poll, most Americans (62%) label themselves as being environmentalists (active (14%) or sympathetic but not active (48%)).*

More recently, in Jan of 2007, The Pew Research Center issued a new report on "Global Warming: A Divide on Causes and Solutions" . Findings include:

Many people are "concerned" about global warming

  • 77 percent of people believe there is solid evidence that the earth is warming
  • 47 percent believe the reason is due to human activity and 20 percent due to natural patterns
  • 77 percent of people think the problem is very serious (45%) or serious (32%)

But when it comes to action and priorities - there are other insights

  • Of those that thought global warming is a problem - 55 percent think that Global Warming requires immediate government action
  • In terms of top priority related to other concerns Pew note "Global Warming Lags as a Policy Priority"

Among Democratic Ratings of "Top Priority" Issues

  • Top three issues are: health care costs, economy and terrorism
  • Energy is #13 (64%)
  • Global Warming is #17 (48%)

Among Republicans Ratings of "Top Priority" Issues

  • Top three issues are terrorism, education, and the economy
  • Energy is #13 (45%)
  • Global Warming is #21 (23%)
