Jim (an energy consultant with a DC based consulting company) uses solar for hot water and solar (photo voltaic) for home electricity which can be sold back to the electrical grid. He uses fireplaces that put heat into their home (vs in the chimney) and special glazing on windows. Of course this is in addition to changing bulbs, driving a hybrid and speaking constantly across the US to promote energy conservation and independence.
